Remember SCV Bicycle Safety Rules

As the Amgen tour rapidly approaches, the Santa Clarita Valley seems to be turning into Bicycle Central. The bicycle is both a mode of transportation that can be used to ride to work or run local errands, as well as a great recreational vehicle. Some people refer to the bicycle as an exercise machine. Even our mayor, Bob Kellar, is sporting a new bicycle, which he uses to keep his body in good physical condition.

An Alternative to Drug Testing: Everyone Sees ACTION

A controversial proposal regarding the drug testing of athletes in our high schools has been the subject of several Signal articles. Cary Quashen, founder of ACTION Family Counseling, a successful drug intervention program for teens and their families, supports the notion and has offered ACTION's assistance. The Wilderness Act of 1964 defined wilderness as "An area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain." The act goes on to describe wilderness as "an area of undeveloped federal land retaining its primeval character and influence, without permanent improvements or human habitation." Wilderness areas usually measure at least 5,000 acres, provide opportunities for backcountry recreation and may contain outstanding social or ecological values.
