Photograph of the Santa Clarita Golden Oak Wins First Place

A photo taken in honor of the Santa Clarita Golden Oak, a native plant living for hundreds of years in the Santa Clarita Valley, won first place in the Santa Clarita Summer 2016 Photography Contest. This contest was open to all amateur photographers and many excellent photos encapsulating the theme of Santa Clarita were entered.

Gardening Club of Santa Clarita Grows Food for Charity

For the last five years, the Gardening Club of Santa Clarita Valley and its volunteers have donated over 1,000 pounds of organically grown fresh produce to deserving charities in the SCV.

Appreciating Our Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library

The Santa Clarita Public Library recently completed its annual Summer Reading Program, "Read for the Win." The Summer Reading Program is held during the summer months to help motivate students to continue reading while they are away from school. This year's theme encouraged hundreds of children and readers of all ages to participate in sports and activity-themed programming at all three of our Santa Clarita Public Library branches. By completing reading challenges, participants were awarded digital badges and were entered into a drawing for prizes.

Local Student Graduates from Adams State University

Robert Long of Stevenson Ranch received an Associate of Science degree from Adams State University, Alamosa, Colorado, during the spring 2016 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, in Plachy Hall. Adams State automatically awards associate degrees to students who complete the required credit hours on their way to a bachelor's degree.

I can't believe it's been nearly 30 years since I moved to the Santa Clarita Valley! When I moved here, there was no mall, the shopping center that houses Kohl's and Whole Foods was an empty field, and Stevenson Ranch hadn't even been developed.

Editor’s Letter

My daughter inspires me. She is an avid reader. I used to be. I feel like I don't have much time to truly enjoy a book anymore. I have three books waiting for me on my nightstand at home. I have started them all but have not yet finished one. My daughter reads several in a month! She works full-time and has a social life, but she rarely watches TV. She prefers to spend her spare time with her nose in a book. And such a pretty nose too!
